Bananas, 2007-08

Women wrapped in yards of fabric dyed bright as butterfly wings. Dusty hungry children wearing nothing but a single string around their waists. The stink of burning garbage. The wonderful, spicy smell of breakfast being whipped up at a streetside stall. The constant screech of traffic and the haunting melody of the call to prayer. India is chaotic, crowded, and colorful. The vibrant culture is steeped in ancient tradition, and everything has its place and purpose. Bananas is the accumulation of 101 days in India: paper-collecting, picture-taking, drawing, painting, cutting & collaging, in collaboration with Jessie Unterhalter.
