Emily C-D is is a Baltimore based artist who received her BFA from MICA in 2005. A process of exploration, collection, and appropriation of found materials and existing spaces informs her work.
Emily's involvement in community art has been a natural outgrowth of a creative process concerned with transformation. She has led youth and adults in building artistic elements to enhance public and neighborhood spaces, including painting murals and cultivating gardens on abandoned lots. Collaboration is an integral element of Emily's art-making practice, and she often works with artist Jessie Unterhalter under the moniker TwoCan Collective.
In addition to her extensive explorations of Baltimore's most dilapidated neighborhoods, Emily has traveled to such far off places as Mexico, India, and Poland to collect materials and inspiration. Based in the warehouse culture of Charm City, she divides her time between drawing, dancing, drumming, biking, building, muraling, and teaching after school art classes. Emily recently returned from spending several months in Mexico City, speaking Spanish, playing violin in a Mariachi, and stocking up on experience for her Next Big Thing.
Please contact Emily C-D directly if you are interested in collaborating or commissioning art work.
